Hang Ma and Hang Ruoi, two of Hanoi’s oldest trading streets, come alive with Lunar New Year decorations as the holiday draws near.

Families shop early for Lunar New Year decorations on Hang Ma street, choosing handmade traditional items to experience the Tet atmosphere.

On weekend evenings, stalls along Hang Ma Street are filled with red and gold lanterns, calligraphy scrolls, red envelopes and festive decorations, creating a vivid Lunar New Year scene in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, where streets once known for votive paper trading have become popular photo spots for young people.

Stalls selling traditional Lunar New Year decorations such as lanterns, red calligraphy scrolls, apricot blossoms and peach blossoms blend the street into the cultural rhythm of welcoming spring, turning shopping into a shared festive experience.

Shop owners on Hang Ma Street carefully prepare traditional Lunar New Year decorations, with prices this year remaining largely stable compared with last year, ranging from VND 50,000 to 800,000 per item.

For the Lunar Year of the Horse (Binh Ngo) 2026, many decorations feature horse motifs -symbols of strength, good fortune and auspicious beginnings, adding a distinctive highlight among the traditional red displays for Tet.

Stylised horse decorations combined with lanterns and traditional Tet greetings become a focal point for shoppers and visitors.
