Nearly 400 yoga practitioners perform in misty Sa Pa

VOV.VN - Nearly 400 yoga practitioners from 24 clubs across Vietnam joined a mass yoga performance amid the misty surroundings of Sa Pa, promoting healthy living and strengthening Vietnam-India cultural exchanges on the occasion of International Day of Yoga 2026.

The central tennis court area in Sa Pa ward, Lao Cai province, becomes a gathering place for yoga enthusiasts on June 6-7, drawing nearly 400 practitioners from 24 clubs across Vietnam. The event forms part of activities marking the 12th International Day of Yoga and the 54th anniversary of Vietnam-India diplomatic relations.

A ceremony marking the International Day of Yoga takes place in Sa Pa, Lao Cai province, on June 7, with the participation of Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Tshering W. Sherpa and representatives of local administration.

Nearly 400 yoga practitioners fill Sa Pa’s central square, joining a large-scale yoga performance amid the town’s cool weather and signature mist on June 7 in a display of harmony and positive energy.

Speaking at the event, Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Tshering W. Sherpa stresses that people-to-people exchanges are at the heart of every partnership and says the strong and enduring ties between India and Vietnam are clearly reflected in the mass yoga performance.

The mass yoga performance attracts participants of all ages. Vu Hong Yen, head of the Yoga for All Committee under the Vietnam Yoga Federation, says the event brings together people aged between five and 80 through their shared love for yoga and Sa Pa.

With the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” the 2026 International Day of Yoga promotes physical well-being and inner harmony. Ha Thi Thoa of the Yoga Song Khoe Ha Dong Club says she has practised yoga for six years and hopes to help spread its health benefits to the wider community.

Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Tshering W. Sherpa says yoga is India’s gift to the world and attributes the success of the event in Sa Pa to the enthusiasm of local yoga practitioners. He also expresses hope to return to the town next year for an even larger mass yoga performance.

The gala offers a colourful artistic showcase, harmoniously combining the elegance of Vietnam’s nón lá (conical hat) with the grace and mystique of traditional Indian dances.

Dang Viet Dung, Vice Chairman of the Sa Pa Ward People's Committee, says the provincial-level event highlights the standing of Lao Cai and Sa Pa, while encouraging public participation in sports and promoting cultural and tourism values as well as cultural exchanges between India and Vietnam.
