US Ambassador to Vietnam Michael Michalak on July 30 granted US$30,000 in aid to the Nam Dinh provincial museum to restore and preserve a valuable collection of its wooden religious objects.

The aid, channelled through the US Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP), will help the museum preserve 57 carved wooden objects and enhance the training and skill levels of its curators.

The pieces, dating back from the 17th to 19th centuries, reflect a golden age of Vietnamese artistry. However, they have been badly damaged overtime and need to be restored.

Since 2001, the AFCP has supported eight cultural preservation projects in Vietnam, totalling US$11.3 million.
