Vietnam rises to third place among favorite destinations for Russian tourists
VOV.VN - Vietnam will climb to third place among the top destinations for Russian travelers in the 2025/26 winter season, driven by the expansion of charter flights and strong competition with Thailand and the UAE, according to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR).
Taras Kobishchanov, Vice President of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) and CEO of Russian Express Holding, shared forecasts and analyses of the outbound tourism market with the media at the annual “Trevolution” conference, unveiling the five countries expected to lead in attracting Russian tourists during the upcoming winter season.
According to Kobishchanov, Egypt will top the outbound travel market in terms of tours sold in the 2025/26 winter season, thanks largely to affordable prices for the majority of consumers. Thailand will hold the second position in sales despite stiff competition from Vietnam and slowing growth momentum.
Vietnam is forecast to rise to third place this winter, even though it did not have any charter flight programs organized by tour operators last year. With the launch and expansion of charter services, arrivals to Vietnam are increasing sharply.
Kobishchanov said that a portion of tourists from Thailand are likely to shift to Vietnam this winter, estimated by Russian Express at around 10-12%.
The United Arab Emirates, with Dubai as the major destination, is projected to rank fourth in group tour sales, nearly on a par with Vietnam.
China is also expected to be among the top five destinations for Russian package tours this winter, boosted by its visa waiver policy. Kobishchanov said Hainan will remain the leading attraction, while the share of tours to mainland China is set to grow. Russian Express predicts an explosive increase in tours to China thanks to the new visa-free policy.
