VOV.VN - Local chess player Nguyen Hoang Yen picked up a silver medal at the Asian Xiangqi (Chinese Chess) Championships which recently concluded in Singapore.

Yen lost out to Chinese master Liu Huan in the final of the women's individual category.

This marks the sixth time that the talented Vietnamese female chess player has finished second place in the continental arena, with this coming after suffering failures in the final stage in 2010, 2015, 2016, 2019, and 2023.

At the Singapore Open event, which was held at the same time, masters from China dominated the competition.

China have been the leading nation in the Asian championships since its inauguration back in 1980, except in 2011 when Vietnamese Nguyen Hoang Lam and Ngo Huong Lan triumphed in the men's and women's individual disciplines, respectively.
