Vietnam reach AVC Women's Cup 2026 semi-finals after 3-0 win over Iran
VOV.VN - Vietnam's women's volleyball team defeated Iran 3-0 on June 11 to officially secure a place in the semi-finals of the AVC Women's Cup 2026.
The team faced Iran in their next match of the tournament on June 11. Following a hard-fought victory over Indonesia, head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's side needed a win, preferably by a comfortable margin, to remain in contention for a semi-final berth.
However, with the team not yet at its best, the Vietnamese side made a difficult start and was closely challenged by Iran throughout the opening set. It was only in the decisive points that Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and her teammates pulled away to claim a 25-19 win.
A similar pattern unfolded in the second set as Iran continued to stay within reach on the scoreboard. Vietnam eventually moved ahead thanks to several important blocks late in the set and secured a 25-20 victory.
The Vietnamese side struggled at the start of the third set, particularly in first-ball reception. With nothing left to lose, Iran attacked aggressively and took the lead, at one stage opening up a six-point advantage.
Just when it appeared Vietnam would lose the third set, tactical adjustments and effective blocking helped Nguyen Tuan Kiet's players fight back and move ahead 24-23.
The two sides then battled point by point, and in the crucial moments Vietnam prevailed 27-25 after an Iranian attack went out.
The Vietnamese team completed a 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-20, 27-25) to officially book their place in the semi-finals of the AVC Women's Cup 2026.
