Competing in the women’s F57 shot put, Nguyen Thi Hai claimed silver with a throw of 8.74m.

She followed that performance with another silver medal in the women’s F57 discus throw, recording 25.98m to complete a two-silver haul at the tournament in Tunisia.

Notably, both results enabled Nguyen Thi Hai to meet the qualification standard for Asian competition, providing favourable momentum for Vietnam’s para athletics team ahead of upcoming regional and continental events.

Tran Van Nguyen also added to Vietnam’s medal tally by taking bronze in the men’s F40 javelin throw with a mark of 23.76m.

This year’s tournament running from June 16 to 18 attracted hundreds of athletes from countries and territories worldwide. The event serves as an important platform for athletes to gain ranking points, improve performance and prepare for future Asian-level championships and Paralympic competitions.

Vietnam sent a five-member delegation to the tournament, including athletes Nguyen Thi Hai, Tran Van Nguyen and Nguyen Binh An, under the guidance of coach Nguyen Duc Ngoc and team official Tran Thi Hong.

Nguyen Thi Hai is among Vietnam’s most accomplished para athletes. Born in 1990, she has won multiple medals at the ASEAN Para Games and represented Vietnam at several Paralympic Games, underscoring her leading role in F57 throwing events.

The team’s strong results at the Tunis Grand Prix 2026 highlight the steady progress of Vietnam’s para athletics on the international stage and offer encouraging signs ahead of major regional and continental competitions.
