Nguyen Hai Dang to face Olympic bronze medallist Lee Zii Jia at US Open 2026
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s top badminton player Nguyen Hai Dang is set to face Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia in a daunting first-round men’s singles clash at the US Open 2026.
The tournament runs from June 24 to 29 in Fullerton as part of the BWF World Tour Super 300 series, with a total prize purse of US$250,000.
Lee won bronze at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and captured the All England Open 2021 title. He is widely regarded as one of the world’s top attacking players, known for his powerful smashes and aggressive style of play.
The 27-year-old, however, has struggled for form in recent months, suffering a series of early exits on the World Tour. The US Open offers him a chance to regain form and confidence ahead of a crucial stretch of the season.
For Hai Dang, the opening-round clash presents a valuable opportunity to gain experience and test himself against one of the sport’s leading players. Despite entering as the underdog, the Vietnamese shuttler could still spring a surprise if he performs at his best.
The first-round men’s singles clash between Nguyen Hai Dang and Lee Zii Jia is scheduled for 7 a.m. on June 25 (Vietnam time).
