Often described as Southeast Asia’s “Champions League”, the tournament will feature two Vietnamese representatives: Hanoi Police FC, winners of the 2025/26 V.League 1 title, and the winners of the 2025/26 Vietnamese National Cup, who have yet to be determined.

According to the draw, Hanoi Police FC have been placed in Group B alongside Port FC of Thailand, Johor Darul Ta'zim of Malaysia, Lion City Sailors of Singapore, Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng of Cambodia, Persib Bandung of Indonesia and the winner of Play-off 2.

Group B is expected to provide a great challenge for the Vietnamese club, with a number of the region’s leading national champions.

Meanwhile, Vietnam’s second representative, the winners of the 2025/26 Vietnamese National Cup, have been drawn in Group A with defending Shopee Cup champions Buriram United, Ratchaburi FC of Thailand, Kuching City FC of Malaysia, Tampines Rovers FC of Singapore, Borneo FC of Indonesia and the winner of Play-off 1.

Observers have also described Group A as highly competitive, with Buriram United entering the tournament as reigning champions after defeating Selangor FC in the 2025/26 Shopee Cup final.

Under the competition schedule, the play-off round will be played over two legs on August 8 and August 15, 2026. The 2026/27 Shopee Cup group stage is set to begin in August.

At the end of the group stage, the top four teams in each group will advance to the quarter-finals.

The 2026/27 Shopee Cup will be the third edition of Southeast Asia’s premier club competition. Following the success of its first two seasons, the tournament has expanded to feature 14 clubs, including national league champions and national cup winners from across the region.
