VOV.VN - Outdoor temperatures in parts of Vietnam are forecast to exceed 40 degrees Celsius in the coming days as intense heat persists across central regions and is set to expand to the northern midlands from June 21, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The weather agency said real-feel outdoor temperatures may be 2-4 degrees Celsius higher than forecast, and could rise further in areas with heat-retaining surfaces such as concrete and asphalt.

On June 19, areas from Ha Tinh to Da Nang and the eastern parts of provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak are forecast to experience severe heat, with daytime highs generally ranging from 36-38 degrees Celsius and exceeding 38 degrees in some places.

The Red River Delta, southern Phu Tho, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An will also see hot weather, with temperatures of 35-37 degrees Celsius. The heatwave is likely to persist in central regions in the coming days.

From June 21, it is expected to expand to the northern midland region.

The weather agency warned that prolonged heat and low humidity could heighten fire risks in residential areas due to increased electricity demand, while also raising the risk of forest fires.

Prolonged exposure to extreme heat may also lead to dehydration and other heat-related health risks.
