Hanoi Congress charts new direction for women’s development in new era
VOV.VN - As Vietnam enters a new stage of development marked by both opportunities and challenges, the 14th National Women’s Congress for the 2026-2031 term is expected to set the direction for the country’s women’s movement and the future development of the Vietnam Women’s Union.
The congress opened in Hanoi on June 18, bringing together 789 delegates representing women from all walks of life across the country, including scientists, entrepreneurs, artists, women’s union officials, representatives of ethnic minority communities and women working in various sectors.
Held at a time when Vietnam is pursuing faster, more sustainable and globally integrated development, the congress focuses on enhancing the role of women in national development while strengthening gender equality, social cohesion and the capacity of women’s organisations.
In her opening remarks, Vietnam Women’s Union President Le Thi Thuy described the congress as an important milestone that would usher in a new phase for both the women’s movement and the organisation itself.
She emphasised that women’s contributions today extend beyond participation in social campaigns and increasingly encompass economic development, community building and broader national progress.
The spirit of the congress is reflected in its action slogan “Solidarity – Courage – Compassion – Creativity – Development,” highlighting the image of Vietnamese women as adaptable, innovative and actively engaged in the country’s development.
A key task of the congress is to review the implementation of resolutions adopted during the 13th National Women’s Congress, assess achievements and shortcomings, and formulate priorities, objectives and solutions for the 2026-2031 period.
The event is also expected to shape reforms aimed at making the organisation more responsive to the changing needs of women and society.
Personnel work has drawn significant attention. On June 17, delegates elected 111 members to the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Women’s Union for the new term.
The committee comprises not only women’s union officials but also female leaders, scientists, entrepreneurs, experts and artists, reflecting efforts to broaden participation and strengthen the diversity of perspectives within the organisation.
The congress has also demonstrated a strong commitment to digital transformation. For the first time, the event is being organised in a fully paperless format, with documents and schedules provided through digital platforms. Artificial intelligence-powered facial recognition systems are being used to support registration and delegate reception.
These innovations are intended to improve organisational efficiency while reflecting the broader digital transformation agenda being pursued across Vietnam. The changes in organisational structure, governance and technology adoption showcased at the congress indicate a shift toward a more modern and responsive model of operation.
The Vietnam Women’s Union aims to strengthen its role as a bridge connecting women with national policies and to present greater opportunities for women to contribute their knowledge, skills and aspirations to national development.
Beyond reviewing past achievements, the 14th National Women’s Congress is expected to outline a long-term vision for women’s advancement in Vietnam.
As the country enters a new development era, the outcomes of the congress are expected to create fresh momentum for women’s participation in economic, social and community development, further enhancing their role and contributions to national progress.
