VOV.VN - Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam, accompanied by his spouse and a high-ranking delegation, arrived at Wattay International Airport in Vientiane on December 1, beginning a State visit to Laos.

The Party leader and his entourage were welcomed at the airport by Politburo member and standing member of the Secretariat Bounthong Chitmany, who is also Vice President of Laos, Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister cum Minister of Public Security Vilay Lakhamphong, along with representatives from the Lao President’s Office, the Party Central Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Party’s External Relations Commission.

The ambassadors of both Vietnam and Laos, and members of the Vietnamese community in Laos were also on hand.

Built on strong political trust, Vietnam–Laos economic and trade relations have made notable progress. Bilateral trade in the first ten months of 2025 reached nearly US$2.5 billion, up 50.4% from the same period in 2024, making Vietnam Laos’ third-largest trading partner.

During recent high-level visit exchanges, Vietnamese leaders have reiterated their strong and comprehensive support for Laos’ reform and development efforts. They have also expressed confidence that the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party would continue to guide the country toward further achievements.

Alongside cooperation in politics, defence and security, both sides are working to advance economic collaboration, expand trade, and strengthen infrastructure connectivity as a foundation for sustainable development. Numerous Vietnamese-invested projects in Laos, spanning energy, agriculture, telecommunications, and infrastructure, are delivering tangible benefits to Laos’ development and contributing to shared interests.

Vietnam and Laos are also closely coordinating on strategic infrastructure projects, particularly in transport and energy connectivity, to facilitate trade, investment, and broader regional integration.

During the Dec. 1-2 trip, the Party chief is scheduled to attend events marking the 50th anniversary of Laos’ National Day and co-chair a high-level meeting between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.
