Immediately after arriving in Manila, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, his spouse and members of the Vietnamese delegation lay flowers at the Monument to President Ho Chi Minh in the ASEAN Garden.

In a solemn atmosphere, they express profound gratitude to the great leader of the Vietnamese nation, who devoted his entire life to the cause of national independence and world peace.

Meeting with the Vietnamese community, businesses and experts in the Philippines on the afternoon of May 31, the Vietnamese Party and State leader stresses that in the coming time, several policies concerning overseas Vietnamese will continue to be revised to create more favourable conditions for compatriots abroad to make greater contributions to their homeland and country.

On June 1, Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. and his spouse host an official welcoming ceremony for Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, his spouse, and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation on their State visit to the Philippines.

Immediately after the ceremony, both leaders hold talks on measures to foster the strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Philippines.

The two sides agree to issue a Joint Statement upgrading Vietnam–Philippines relations to an Enhanced Strategic Partnership, ushering in a new era of bilateral cooperation and development.

The two sides agree to strengthen and promote substantive cooperation in security and defence, as well as maritime and ocean affairs; ensure freedom of navigation and overflight; and maintain peace and stability in the region through coordination mechanisms and the sharing of experience in combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, protecting the marine environment, and promoting the sustainable development of fisheries.

With regard to trade, the two sides agree on major directions to create breakthroughs in economic cooperation. They emphasised the goal of soon raising bilateral trade turnover to US$10 billion and expanding cooperation into new areas such as the digital economy, green economy, marine economy, high-tech agriculture and renewable energy.

As part of the State visit, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam and other members of the Vietnamese delegation lay flowers at the monument to national hero Jose Rizal, who played an important role in the Philippines’ struggle for independence.

Speaking at the Vietnam–Philippines Business Forum on June 1, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam states that it is time for Vietnam–Philippines economic cooperation to be elevated to a new level, not only through expanded scale but, more importantly, through improved quality, depth and substantive effectiveness.

Later the day, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, accompanied by his spouse and a high-level Vietnamese delegation, leaves Manila for Hanoi, successfully concluding the State visit to the Philippines.
