The expansion comes as Terminal T2 faces heavy overcrowding, having handled nearly 13 million passengers in the January–November 2025 period, well above its original design capacity of 10 million passengers a year.

The expansion increases the terminal’s total floor area from about 139,216 square metres to 200,164 square metres, while operational capacity is boosted with the number of check-in counters rising from 96 to 144, including 24 self-service baggage drop counters.

The airport's expansion marks a major step in its digitalisation drive, with an integrated ecosystem of automated systems being deployed for the first time to enhance passenger experience and improve operational efficiency.

The departure hall is equipped with 24 self-check-in kiosks, allowing passengers to check in without queuing at counters, along with 24 self-service baggage drop units.

The number of passenger security screening areas has been increased from two to three, designated A, B and C.

The expansion raises the number of boarding gates from 17 to 30 through extensions to the east and west, while baggage carousels increase from six to eight, reducing waiting times for arriving passengers.

Security checks will be more convenient with the automated scanning system.

A next-generation 3D screening system helps to speed up security checks without requiring passengers to remove electronic devices or liquids.

The technological highlights in the security control system feature six next-generation 3D scanning machines and three state-of-the-art body scanners to meet world’s Transportation Security Administration (TSA) standards.

Advanced body scanners meeting international safety standards use millimetre-wave technology which is non-ionising and safe for pregnant women and people with pacemakers.

Automated immigration gates with biometric verification are arranged in order to streamline entry and exit procedures.

The Terminal T2 expansion project marks a significant transformation for Noi Bai International Airport in digitising aviation processes. For the first time, a synchronised ecosystem of automated equipment is deployed, empowering passengers and optimising operational capacity.

The terminal also provides other services including tables for families, baby stroller, and a luxurious fragrance system in public areas.

Expanded Terminal T2 also adds Green Airport design to improve the overall passenger experience.

From December 19, Noi Bai International Airport will put the expanded Terminal T2 facilities into operation.

The inauguration of the expanded Terminal T2 will contribute to continuously improving the quality of services at Noi Bai International Airport, becoming an important international air gateway of the country.
