Early New Year celebrations of Ha Nhi ethnic people in northern region

VOV.VN - Residing in the northern mountainous region, the Ha Nhi celebrate their Tet (New Year) festival more than two months earlier than the Kinh, which is the largest ethnic group in the nation.

The Ho Su Cha traditional festival of the Ha Nhi ethnic group in Muong Te district in the northern province of Lai Chau is celebrated during the 10th lunar month, when people finish the harvest.

Ethnic people in Muong Te district of Lai Chau province still retain many distinct cultural features, including the traditional Tet (New Year) or Ho Su Cha festival.

Banh Giay, a type of glutinous rice cake, is an indispensable offering to the ancestors.

The Ha Nhi ethnic people offer the most delicious meat to their ancestors.

The festival offers a chance for the Ha Nhi to don new traditional costumes.

Ethnic people prepare art performances to be put on during the five-day festival.

They also join in playing folk games at the event.

During Tet, people extend their best wishes and luck to each other.

They also drop by each other’s house and treat their guests with feasts full of wine and meat.
