Hateco and Maersk expand logistics infrastructure partnership
VOV.VN - Hateco Group and A.P. Moller – Maersk are seeking to deepen cooperation in port infrastructure, logistics and supply chain development, underscoring growing international confidence in Vietnam’s role as a regional logistics hub.
The new momentum in bilateral cooperation was highlighted during a visit by a Maersk delegation to the Hateco Hai Phong International Container Terminal (HHIT) on June 23.
The delegation was led by Robert Maersk Uggla, chairman of the Board of Directors of A.P. Moller – Maersk, who met with Hateco representatives to review terminal operations and discuss future cooperation opportunities.
During the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue exploring cooperation opportunities in port infrastructure, logistics services and supply chain development to enhance Vietnam’s international connectivity.
According to Hateco, cargo throughput at Berths 5 and 6 in the Lach Huyen port area has exceeded 800,000 TEU within less than one year of operation. The company aims to increase throughput to 1.4 million TEU by 2026 while maintaining strong growth in the coming years.
To support rising demand, Hateco and its partners are studying plans to invest in a second turning basin in front of Berths 5 and 6. The project is expected to improve access for larger container vessels and further enhance operational efficiency at the Lach Huyen deep-water port complex.
The Maersk representative praised the terminal’s development progress and operational performance, noting that it is steadily establishing itself as one of Vietnam’s most modern deep-water port facilities.
He said the two sides are also cooperating on several major infrastructure projects, including the Hateco Hai Phong International Container Terminal, the Lien Chieu Port project in Da Nang and an inland waterway port project in Hanoi. These projects are expected to strengthen Vietnam’s logistics network and support long-term economic growth.
The partnership combines Maersk’s global expertise in shipping and terminal operations with Hateco’s experience in infrastructure development, creating opportunities to build a more integrated and efficient logistics ecosystem in Vietnam.
Coinciding with the visit, the ultra-large container vessel MATZ MAERSK called at the Hateco Hai Phong International Container Terminal.
With a deadweight tonnage of more than 213,970 DWT and a carrying capacity of approximately 18,270 TEU, the vessel is among the world’s largest container ships.
The successful handling of MATZ MAERSK further demonstrates the terminal’s capability to accommodate mega container vessels and highlights the growing importance of Hai Phong’s deep-water port system within international shipping networks and regional supply chains.
The development reflects Vietnam’s ongoing efforts to upgrade maritime infrastructure, improve trade connectivity and strengthen its position in global logistics and supply chain networks.
